Final Art Piece

For my Final Art Piece, I wanted to experiment with what happens when you face two computers together and record off of when. What happens is it creates a double window and the picture inside of the picture lags. It is slower then what is really happening. This was a very difficult project for me so I made it into something I was curious about.

I tried again because I am having such difficulty with this project! This one is about how women portray themselves. There are so many pressures for them to be everything but themselves, and I think the most important thing for you to do is to be yourself! Enjoy!

Xerox Project

I used my body parts to create a scene you would see for thanksgiving. On a day you are giving thanks, you take the life of something so innocent. This was one of the coolest projects I have ever done!

Highlike.org

Highlike.org is one of the most exquisite sights I have ever visited. Some of the pieces that are advertised her are magnificent. Some of the projects require so much detail, that it had to of taken the artists a while to design these pieces. It seems like this website has both of the extremes. Some of the pieces looks like they are so in depth and have such immense detail, while others seem like they don't have as much. The piece that I like the most is shown below. I just think it is so realistic, and interesting. I mean how often do you see what looks like a real human hanging from the ceiling. I wonder what inspired the artist to come up with such a different and unique idea. That has to make you think about what makes any artist come up with their artwork. The stories behind some of those pieces would be so amazing. You would be stuck there all day and all night just listening to the artists talk. To pick the brain of some of these artists would be so interesting.

Beyonce- Girl Power

I think that Beyonce should be added to the list of girl power. She is one of the most noted music artist in the industry today. She is seen as an empowering figure, and a role model for young girls all over the world. They even have young girls that worship her like she is a god. Its crazy how many people look up to her. I think that she should be added to the category because of the role that she portrays to women. Before she married Jay-Z she had the I don't need a man to be successful attitude, and I think that appeals to many girls. She made her own future by hard work, and dedication, before she got married. I think that is true girl power. When you find someone that is so set on their goals and their future and doesn't ned anyone to support them; they are making their own dreams come true. She really inspires many people and in a good way. She doesn't have a stick thin body, she has curves, and she is confident. Another thing that is great about her is her confidence level. She never seems self conscious and always seems confident. She keeps her head held up high no matter what and seems to not care what people think about her. And I think that is what true girl power is.

Sheryl Oring

Sheryl Oring is a performance artist that started an  "I Wish to Say…" campaign, typing letters to the president. This is a traveling  public art project where she sits down dressed up as a typist back in the olden days and listens to what people have to say and types it up on her type writer. Many people take time out of their day to express their issues towards the president with her, while she types it up on her typewriter. I think this is one of the coolest performance art pieces that I have ever seen. When I was doing my performance art piece for my class, i was considering going off of something like that with Oring and my inspirations. I think these are the type of performance art pieces that people enjoy seeing and taking part in. I know I would. If I saw a performance art piece like this I would love to take part in it. Seeing something like this as I was walking down the street would really surprise and intrigue me, like I'm sure that it does to many others.

Butoh

Butoh is one of the most interesting forms of dance that I have ever seen. It is a for of Japanese dance theatre that encompasses a range of different activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement. The costumes that they were when they do these dances are just incredible. They are so intricate and precisely made for every single dance. Also the way that the dancers move is so thought out and precise. Each dancer knows exactly what they are doing. Its so interesting to watch, because they aren't just dancing they are telling a story. These dances are to show the pain and suffering the Japanese suffered after the bombings in Japan. Since it is showing such pain the dancers are supposed to move slow and precise, while making unfathomable body gestures, which most are low to the ground. This is exploring a new way of dancing by breaking traditions.

John Cage

John Cage is best known for his works with music. He was an American composer, music theorist, writer, and artist. He was a pioneer of the non-standard use of musical instruments, indeterminacy in music, and electroacoustic music. People say that he was one of the most influential composers on the twentieth century. He used objects to preform live for people. These performances were related to performance art, and Dada. He would alter the instruments that he would play. For example he changed the way a piano he was playing sounded by putting screws in where the music would play. This would alter the sound, and change it into something else. He called it the prepared piano. He is best known thought for Sonatas and Interludes. Cage was influenced by East and South Asian cultures. Unlike his teachers Henry Cowell and Arnold Schoenberg, who got their inspiration from their radical innovations in music. John Cage would describe music to you as "a purposeless play" which is "an affirmation of life – not an attempt to bring order out of chaos nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply a way of waking up to the very life we're living".

Angel de Quinta

Angel de Quinta seems so interesting. He doesn't post traditional things on his blogs like most people. Most people post things that they think appeals to people so that they will have a lot of followers. Angel doesn't do that he posts things that appeal to him. Like Broadway excerpts. He doesn't critique them, and make you read a long summary on what he thought of the play, instead he wants you to experience them for yourself. This is nice because a lot of people critique what THEY liked and didn't like and that doesn't always appeal to you, because everyone feels differently about different things. I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of the places her has traveled to. This makes me want to visit these places as well. I love traveling and some of the places he has taken pictures of really makes me want to see them for myself. Angel is a very interesting man and I find his blog very appealing and interesting as well. He's very positive and puts you in a good mood when you read his stories.

William Burroughs vs. Marcell Duchamp

William Burroughs was said to be one of the most influential artists of his time. His pen name was William Lee, he was a novelist, short story writer, essayist, painter, and spoken word performer. He is said to be  "one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the 20th century".  He is said to be "one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the 20th century"(Wikipedia). Some of his most famous works include Junky, and Naked Lunch. He attended Harvard University and later in life became addicted to drugs. Unfortunately Burroughs died in 1977.

Marcel Duchamp on the other hand is someone that will never be forgotten. He was inspired by Edward Muybridge. He created his own unit of measure, dropped a piece of string and how they fell became his rulers. He also signed a Urinal making it art in1917. He was one of the three artists to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening of the twentieth century. Duchamp rejected the work of many of his fellow artists because he said all it did was please the eye. He wanted his work to put art back in the service of the minds.

Velvet Undergroud

The velvet underground was an American rock band active between 1964 and 1973. They band as a whole had very little commercial success together but over all they were cited one of the most influential groups off all time. They fell under many categories rock, experimental rock, art rock, proto- punk, avant-garde, and drone. They only sold 30,000 copies of their album in their early years, but it was said that every one of the 30,000 people who brought a copy of their album started a band. Their album The Velvet Underground & Nico was named the 13th greatest album of all time and the most prophetic rock album ever made. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

Archetypes vs. Stereotypes

An Archetype is defined as a very typical example of a person or thing.
Some examples of archetypes would be like we all have a role in society and as long as we play that role we will be successful.

This is like saying everyone needs to go to school; take on the student role. If we don't do this then we won't be successful and we won't have a good life. This isn't true we don't need to file into society like robots because thats what society says we should do. Everyone has their own path and we just need to find ours. Or like because you are african american you are automatically put into the category of failure. You won't graduate from high school and you will have three kids by the time you are 16 with three different women. You will never be any one. This is wrong on so many levels. Everyone has the opportunity to be someone or to do something, you just have to beat the standards. I believe that archetypes are more severe then stereotypes. These categorize the individual.

A Stereotype is defined a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular person or thing.
Some examples of stereotypes would be racial remarks, sexual remarks, and gender remarks.

A stereotype today would be like Asian people love to eat rice, or black people love fried chicken. These categorize a group of people into the same commonality. Just because you are black doesn't automatically mean that you like fried chicken, I'm white and I love fried chicken and I also love rice. Just because you fall into that gender, ethnicity, or sexuality society has a stupid way of categorizing people. You are an individual and unfortunately society doesn't see past skin deep, or past your gender. Theses things need to be changed you shouldn't be categorized with every other white female, or spanish male, you should be seen for who you are. Unfortunately as a whole we can't get rid of stereotypes, but thinking for yourself you can. You can change the way that you think, and the way that you present yourself.

DaDa Manifesto

Dadaism was an art movement that started during the 20th century. It was inspired by the European avant-garde. A big name artist that most people know of who partook in this era of art was Marcel Duchamp. No this isn't who made the popular youtube video called Marcel the Shell, this man was way more important than that. Although he wasn't directly in cahoots with Dadaism he was considered to be one of the 3 poplar artists who revolutionized the art movement of the twentieth century. Enough with Marcel Duchamp. The Dada Manifesto was made in 1918; the beginning of the 20th century and revolutionized the way art was made from then until now. Dada played with collage and montage. Many people thought that politicians were corrupt back then and that they were spreading poison into the ears of americans. These were sound poems that really showed how the "american dream" wasn't working. They were verses without words, they were more like sound patterns. Its amazing to think about the lengths that artists would go to just to make sure that their problems were seen or their versus were heard. This was such an interesting and crazy movement. I wish things like this were happening now. Things with meaning and things that people feel so passionate about. Instead people riot so that they have excuses to destroy things and break into shops and steal things. Nothing is meaningful anymore, just destructive.

Preformance Art Piece

My iend put a santa hat over her hear to cover her eyes, so that what was happening wouldn't distract her, or tamper with the situation. When you see something coming you automatically think to brace yourslef, or stop what is going to happen. This way you can't you just have to take it. We have 10-12 people come into our dorm room where she was waiting patientally with a santa hat covering her eyes. We told them that they could use anything on the tbale to mess with her, or if they had a better idea that was fine. Since this is a amerature preforming art piece you never know what is going to happen. You see it as it happens. Most of them didn't know that they were being recorded until after, so that I could make sure that I got their permission to post this. Also they seemed very timid when asked to participate. They slowly became better. Most were friends so they couldn't help but giggle when they saw their firend sitting waiting to be messed with and then after couldnt help but laugh knowing she couldnt do anything about it!

My inspiration for the preformance art piece was Marina Abramovic. She is one of the most intluential Preforming artists there is today. Here are some examples of her work:

She is truly a strong women, most people couldn't do the things that she has done through her work.
